The CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is a certificate issued by Cambridge University which accredits English teachers at an international level. It is aimed at individuals who are interested in initiating a career as English teachers and it is, undoubtedly, the most widely recognized certificate worldwide. Over 10,000 people are awarded this certificate every year.
The CELTA requires a high English level on the part of the candidate. Therefore, it is aimed at native English speakers or candidates with CPE or similar qualification.
It is a practical / theoretical, 150-hour course and includes:
- Learning theories
- Teacher – student relationship
- Different methodologies
- Different teaching techniques
- Class planning
- Development and use of different teaching materials and resources
Candidates are required to teach classes during the course in order to put the knowledge acquired into practice.
