The Power of Vocabulary – Chunking it!
This practical session will help teachers get acquainted with what in ELT theory is known as the Lexical Approach and one of its key components: Lexical Chunks. We will explore what Michael Lewis understands by this term, and explore what lexis consists of and the common terminology used to describe it. The session then considers the use of texts, authentic or otherwise, as vehicles for raising learners’ awareness of the formulaic language present within them, by offering a variety of engaging classroom activities aimed at improving the learners’ ability to identify and use lexical chunks in a practical and engaging way.
